John Terry bids farewell to Chelsea career with guard of honour substitution

John Terry ended his Chelsea career on Sunday afternoon after just 26 minutes, to correspond with his shirt number. It was well know that the Chelsea captain would be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and the club agreed to Terry's plan to give him one last run out in the starting XI before subbing him on the 26 minute mark.

Big congratulations to John Terry @ChelseaFC today.

Beautiful tribute from the stadium πŸ˜₯😭

Even Chelsea's opposition, Sunderland, agreed to kick the ball out at that time if they were in possession to allow Terry his final farewell.

As an emotional Terry made his way off the pitch to his team mates giving him a guard of honour, the fans inside Stamford Bridge saluted their departing captain one last time after 22 years at the club.

But despite Terry being given an honourable send off, the way in which it happened seemed to not sit right with some of the BBC Final Score pundits:

"This isn't Hollywood - it's a Premier League fixture!"

Not everyone is impressed with Chelsea's send-off for John Terry.

While others took to social media to pay tribute to the departing Chelsea skipper:

Wouldn't have had it other way

A proper send off for the player who defined @ChelseaFC

John Terry's magnificent Chelsea career ends after 26 minutes of his final match. A great defender. A real leader. And a winner.
