Hibs deny Rangers in ten goal thriller

A hat-trick from Jamie MacLaren denied Rangers a comeback victory in what was a dramatic 5-5 draw at Easter Road on the final day of the season and helped to deny Rangers a second place finish.

Hibernian raced into a 3-0 lead within the first 22 minutes through Florian Kamberi, Scott Allan and MacLaren. But Rangers fought back to make it 3-3 at half time thanks to goals from James Tavernier, Jordan Rossiter and Bruno Alves.

Rangers completed the turn around in the second half thanks to goals from Jason Holt and Josh Windass to make it 5-3, but MacLaren pulled Hibs to within a goal of caretaker manager Jimmy Nicholl's side before Jason Holt was sent off.

In the third minute of stoppage time, Hibernian secured a dramatic equaliser as MacLaren prodded home Hibernian's fifth of the game, cue Neil Lennon celebrating by doing an aeroplane onto the pitch - after being subjected to vile sectarian abuse from Rangers fans throughout the match - which saw the former Celtic manager sent to the stand before the final whistle.

Rangers had to better Aberdeen's result at Celtic Park to secure second place, but with Aberdeen winning 1-0 at Celtic Park, Rangers were left third in what was supposed to be a two horse race.
