West Bromwich Albion have signed Scotland international Oliver Burke from German club RB Leipzig for a reported £15 million.
The 20-year-old former Nottingham Forest academy graduate has signed a five year deal with the English Premiership side.
Burke becomes the fifth new arrival at The Hawthorns this summer after the signing of Gareth Barry, Jay Rodriguez, Zhang Yuning and Ahmed Hegazi. He will be eligible for West Brom’s Premier League game at home to Stoke City on Sunday.
The Scot left the City Ground to join Leipzig on a five-year deal last August, playing 25 times (20 from the bench) and scoring once for the Bundesliga runners-up.
Following the signing announcement, Burke said: “I feel like it is a time for me to move on and play more games. I’m here, I want to impress and I want my name to be first on the team sheet.”
Baggies head coach Tony Pulis added: “We’re really pleased to get him in - the lad has got a tremendous talent,” said the Baggies head coach.
“He’s got a fantastic, raw ability but he has now also got the experience of going away from the comfort of his own area to a foreign country and experiencing life.
“He’s gained the experience of playing for a top club in the Bundesliga with top coaches. That will have broadened his horizons and been good for his development.
“I’m sure our fans will like him. He’s very direct, he scores goals. There’s a bit of work to be done and certainly more to come out of him - he’s not the finished article yet by any means.
“But he’s already got good experience from playing at Forest and now the added taste of figuring in a team which finished second in the Bundesliga.
“I watched him this summer with Scotland’s Under 20s and he was outstanding. I’m looking forward to working with him."
