Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe is set to sign for Bournemouth on a three year deal following the North East club’s relegation to the English Championship.
The 34 year old signed for Sunderland in January 2015, scoring 37 goals in all competitions.
Defoe is available on a free transfer and Bournemouth are reportedly willing to pay him over £3 million a year to lead the line for the South coast club.
In season 2000-01, Defoe was on loan to Bournemouth from West Ham scoring 12 goals in 10 consecutive games finishing the season on 20 goals.
News of Defoe’s impending departure from the North East club saw a mixed reaction:
Idk why Bournemouth want Defoe when they’ve already got the young version in Callum Wilson.

What’s this about Defoe on £130k/week at B’mouth?! There must’ve been a lot of suitors but wow that’s a lot considering his age

Defoe is a goal scorer but a 3 year contract for a 34 year old is a major risk.

Surprised Bournemouth are going for Defoe. With Josh King, Benik Afobe and Callum Wilson, they are one of the teams that need him the least

Defoe is a Sunderland hero, but he isn’t in the same league as Super Kev or Sir Niall ⚪️🔴⚪️🔴⚪️🔴#SAFC

Defoe to Bournemouth is great business on a free as they can then pay him what ever be wants. Proven goal scorers are hard to find
